June 23, 2009 -- Smoking pot causes cell damage that could make a person more likely to develop cancer, researchers report. Scientists at the University of Leicester have discovered that marijuana (cannabis) smoke alters DNA, the genetic material located in cells of the human body. Some forms of DNA damage can lead to cancer.

So what about all the cancer patients that are using cannabis to treat their symptoms?

This is the reason why we

This is the reason why we shouldn’t smoke in the first place.  Smoking has done nothing good for our body.  I can’t understand why some people like smoking at all.

I want to become a bionic man with super strength and other bionic powers.

Why only Marijuana smoke?

Why only Marijuana smoke?  Any kind of smoke that emanates from the burning of even waste material can cause cancer.  Research is being done to see whether smoke that emanates when plastic is burnt could cause cancer.

Thanks.

Marijuanna and cancer

In repsonse to those who smoke it to alleviate symptoms: I would imagine that most do it when there is no hope of getting rid of it and they just want to live out the rest of their life with less pain.

This is just one study though and we all know that there is no such thing as a 100% proven study when it involves topics that are not fully understood (like cancer and the effects of marijuanna.

Well that's funny, because there are studies saying marijuana kills cancer cells!  Sounds like propaganda to me.  Probably sponsored by pharmaceutical companies!

False Propaganda--but on which side?

Here's an article saying marijuana KILLS brain cancer cells!!!

Article

So who's right? It has to do with the active chemicals being used, versus SMOKING the marijuana. No doubt the OP's study was referring to the effects of smoking marijuana. The Business Week article was talking about using it in a different, more healthy manner.

Argh I love me some sailing!

They should just legalize it

They should just legalize it for crying out loud!  The government could earn billions just by taxing it.

Problem is, private contractors get billions more to fight those terrible drugs!

It's not too clear if it

It's not too clear if it causes cancer or kills cancer cells. I have only heard that it can help to grow Brain cells so that it can help to avoid Old age memory loss problems. I don't know how far it is true. After all it is very harmful for the lungs and it can give rise to lung cancer as well.

SMOKING marijuana causes cell

SMOKING marijuana causes cell damage, just like smoking anything does.  The chemicals in marijuana have actually been shown to KILL cancer cells!
