TITUSVILLE, Florida (CNN) -- It's shortly after 5 a.m. when the phone rings, and on the line is a clearly anxious and worried parent...Her daughter, Sierra Journey Factor, is 8 years old and has a terminal disease called Type 2 spinal muscular atrophy, a genetic disorder that affects parts of the nervous system that control voluntary muscle movement. In addition, she has a restrictive lung disease and a kidney disorder. She has used a wheelchair since infancy.

That's the thing with these

That's the thing with these 'civilized' countries like the US and Australia.  They think they are standing on moral high ground by not pushing forward with stem cell research, yet they'll spend billions of dollars on a war in IRAQ, killing tens or hundreds of thousands of civilians...So second or third world countries are the only recourse for families with sick children with no other options.
Why can't we all just move on and realize that using stems cells will save MILLIONS of lives?

Argh I love me some sailing!

I think it is sad that this

I think it is sad that this family is spending so much money in a foreign country for something that may not work. I am all for stem cell research and usage in the states, but honestly I do not trust that other foreign countries would not just inject sugar water into the body instead of stem cells. I just think that alot of these countries take medical proceedures like this and turn them into a tourist trade so to speak. Not to say they do not have ligitimate medical treatment but for the one clinic mentioned that would not open it's records for peer review suggests that it is hiding something. Same thing with the one the family went to that had a form to fill out as the only means of a one sided contact. They are gong to go broke and for what? A half hearted hope?

About your concern with

About your concern with foreign countries injecting 'sugar water'.  Sure things like that are always a concern, but many countries have medical systems as good, and posisbly better than the U.S.

Don't forget that for many families, they are at the end of the road.  It's now or never.  They've tried everything possible.  When it's your child on the line, you would go to the end of the world for them, literally.

Children who suffer from such

Children who suffer from such types of diseases lose the liberty and the freedon which other children enjoy. They need not worry about it.  As long as they get alrigtht it is okay with them.

Thanks.
