I'm sure most people here have seen the movie 'Avatar' by now.. if not, *SPOILER ALERT*
The premise of the movie is that some of the blue aliens (Na'vi) are actually just hybrid bodies, and a human conciousness can be transferred into the 'Avatar', allowing the human to fully control and 'live life' through the Avatar.
A pretty cool concept...but is it possible? Sure anything is posisble, but something like this has to be so advanced there's no way it would ever work in our lifetiems.

Not to sound cliche, but "anything's possible!"
I, for one, believe that such technology they show in 'Avatar' is going to be real, one day. Sort of like super-virtual reality.
Are any of you Stargate fans? In Stargate, there's an advanced race of beings called Asgard. In order to attain immortality, they create cloned bodies that are blank slates. They then download their conciousnesses into the cloned bodies. When the body fails, they simply repeat the process.
The whole idea of conciousness being transferred is actually brought up quite often in Stargate. It's a pretty fascinating concept.
The problem the 'Asgard' have is that they make clones of clones and the bodies started showing genetic problems.
Yeah they say a clone of a clone of a clone is like making a copy of a copy of a copy; eventually the copy is all screwed up.
But back on tropic: yes I think one day Avatar will be possible and we will be able to make clones and inhabit them!
There's a difference with making a copy of a copy on your Xerox machine, and genetically copying DNA.
Think about a computer hard drive: you can make an image of the hardrive which is a perfect copy of EVERYTHING on the hard drive. If you check for errors, you can be sure of an exact copy!
It's not always easy to make an image of a hard drive if there's copyright protection.. actually it's more of an issue with CDs and DVDs. The workarounds are hard.
Haven't initial tests shown that mother nature put copyright protection into our DNA, which makes it hard to clone for a long time without defects?
Keep Going
Even if it were possible to make a clone of a human or clone a human mind, why would they ever make up some weird creature like in the movie Avatar?
Wouldn't humans just want to have their minds put into a human body?
Humans wouldn't have their brains downloaded into a regular human body!! They'd download their brains into a super-human body, strong, smart, in shape, and the women would pick a cloned body with big tits and the men would pick a cloned body with a big penis. Not sure about the giant blue aliens though.
I do not believe it will be possible or maybe I just can not wrap my brain around it. I think that we will not have a need to make or create an individual avatar when we will be able to "hybridize" ourselves and kids to be perfect beings, free from disease and aging and all the bad health issues we have now. In this instance, who needs to be blue?
Making ourselves into blue aliens like in Avatar: Playstation 10, coming in 2030!
I think that it is possible but not on this lifetime. It might hundreds or thousand of years before human can invent something advance like that.
I want to become a bionic man with super strength and other bionic powers.
You'd be surprised how close we are to some of these technologies... Bionic eyes are really making headway. We've had artificial/bionic hearts for decades, and the newer models work very well.
If they could download your mind into a new body, there wouldn't be a need for bionic body parts right? Just get an entire new body!
If they downloaded your mind to a new body then that means that you can live like a god since you will never die anymore. Also those bionic parts are not needed since you can just replace a whole body with new ones.
Pretty cool.
I want to become a bionic man with super strength and other bionic powers.
Well even if you downloaded your mind into a cloned body, theoretically you could still die. Unless there was a backup copy of your conciousness stored somewhere, your conciousness would die with your body.
That's something I didn't like about Avatar: they only brought 1 clone/Avatar per driver...what if it died or malfunctioned? They would have a driver with nothing to do for many years while a new Avatar could be sent from Earth.
The Avatar is a concept and right it is. I have always been hopeful regarding infinte faculty of mankind. The journey is from the impossible to the endless possibilities. Still a simple question haunts me. We have so far manifested the potency of our talent in the sphere of abiotics. We are still in the process of learning what consciousness is. It has not yet been possible to produce 'consciouness' or hold it in any dimension. If this is achieved more windows will be opened. Yes, I am hopeful.
Avatar in Sanskrit means 'reincarnation' and I think it should be possible to believe what is shown in the movie. Several years ago UFOs created a sensation in the world.
Thanks.
The one main thing I kept thinking about while watching Avatar is how is the control signal getting to the Avatars? I mean, I can't get more than 3 bars on my cell phone, but the humans were fully controlling giant alien bodies over a range of miles and miles... how?
Wow I didn't know "Avatar" meant rebirth or reincarnation! That's pretty cool. Was the word Avatar used much before the movie came out? I can't really say it was used much. The movie writer must have known what it really means then.
