Is cryogenic stasis possible?  Can they ever freeze humans and bring them back to life?  I was watching a TV show where they did this and wondered how far from reality they were....thanks

I think that it may be possible in the future since they are always studying some new ways.   Now, if you are asking on whether they could do it now, then my answer is a big no.

I want to become a bionic man with super strength and other bionic powers.

Eventually cryogenic stasis would be possible, but right now they don't know the proper way to freeze human cells without puncturing the cells.  They need to find a natural antifreeze to allow the cells to freeze undamaged.

I believe it will be possible to freeze and revive people, one day.  But I feel sorry for the people who are already frozen, because I do not believe that the techniques used on them will be effective.

how do you get living cells to go into stasis without killing them?

Even those frogs can only slow down to a hibernation state.

Even when bears hibernate, their bodies are still alive and burning fuel.

But for cryogenic sleep or cryogenic stasis, they are proposing to keep humans asleep for years and years.. how is this possible?  Wouldn't the humans age?

Frogs?  What frogs?

Some frogs can go into long term sleep, and their bodies use a natural antifreeze to prevent the cells from rupturing when they get below freezing temperature.

@Monsoon,

This is the reason why scientists are studying about it.  I know that there are some animals that could fall asleep for years but I have forgotten about it now.

Yeah but the thing is for all conceiveable practical purposes, humans would want to go into cryogenic stasis for more than a few years.

What's the point in going in stasis for 5 years?  So you go to sleep in 2010 and wake up 2014 just in time to buy the "new iPhone 10G" with holographic display.

That is funny!

Of course, humans who want to go into cryogenic status are those who have an incurable disease.  In the future, those non-curable diseases can be cured.

I am not sure if cryogenic stasis is possible or not. If it is ever possible mankind will be benefitted. If  you ever visit India and come in contact of some sages who follow the ancient austere practices of Yoga, you may chance to hear stories which certify cryogenic stasis. Kumbhokorno is a character in the great epic named the Ramayana. He is supposed to have such capacity.

Interesting regarding Kumbhakarna and cryogenic stasis.  I read about him on wikiepedia and didn't find anything about cyrogenic stasis...  Maybe I need to read the entire story first.

@Machida: It's not just people with incurable diseases who want to be frozen...I'd jump at the chance for cryogenic stasis.  Imagine waking up in a hundred years and all the incredible technological advances they would have.  I bet they could extend your lifespan a lot.
