Isn't this the same crappy artificial eye that has been around for many years where the person can only see a square image made up of dots? How can they say that with this bionic eye she can make out trees and objects?
I feel so sorry for that poor women who lost her site. I wish they could have tried to give her a bionic eye earlier in her life because right now she is so old.
Yeah they mean the same thing. You can also call it a "neuroprosthetic". Prosthetic doesn't just mean a fake arm or leg, it's just that in the past, prosthetics have usually be arms or legs.
So for the price of a new car, you can get bionic eyes that let you see a little light and dark but not much more...so you still won't be able DRIVE said car.
At one stage or the other the patient has to go for the option of the bionic eye. I have seen a woman patient who lost her eye sight completely for she refused to have one. There was a burst in the retina.

Is an artificial eye a bionic eye? One and the same, right?

We have HD cameras on handheld smart phones, but we can't make bionic eyes that have a higher resolution than 64x64 ? Why not?
How much does the bionic eye cost?
Well this one is the Argus II bionic eye and it will cost over $30,000

I think that it is cool since she is the first to use such technology. I am just saddened by the fact that she is uisng an outdated model.
I want to become a bionic man with super strength and other bionic powers.
Not that the blind would be complaining, but we have 1080p HDTV and all we can give patients is a bunch of black or white dots?
Doesn't it seem like in the year 2010 we should be able to fix blindness????
