"The number of swine flu cases is closer to reaching 30,000, the World Health Organization reported Friday, a day after declaring the start of a global pandemic.

As of Friday, 29,669 cases of the H1N1 virus have been reported in 74 countries, the WHO said. The total number of deaths worldwide has reached 145.

The latest figures come a day after the WHO said the virus was unstoppable and had become widespread enough to raise the global swine flu alert to its highest level."

When the swine flu first came out a month ago, I thought everyone was freaking out for no reason because only a couple people had died, and when you compare it to the regular flu, which kills hundreds of thousands each year, it seemed like a bunch of hype.

But now it seems like maybe there's something to it.  It's no officially a PANDEMIC, and the WHO called it UNSTOPPABLE!!!

Well I think you have pretty much hit the nail on the head.  There is still just a little bit of doubt out there, if the Swine Flu will turn nasty...and it all depends on time.  We have to wait through the summer, fall and see what happens in the winter time.

The Flu of 1918 took the same path.  It started out fairly mild, but ended up killing millions.

The same basics apply: cover when you cough or sneeze, wash your hands, eat and sleep well.

When I inprocessed into the Marines, we got about a dozen shots, most of which we had no idea what they were giving us.  With all of that pumping through our veins, I am probably protected for life from the flu.  I've never had the flu since I was in the Marines, but did every year as a kid.

I'd be more worried about the mystery shots than getting flu or not.

PANDEMIC?  UNSTOPPABLE?

Where are the reports of mass death?  Where is the hysteria?  There isn't any.  Michael Jackson having a heart attack is getting way more news than swine flu.

Flu like this can go dormant or not become extremely virulent for months or years after it first gets going..

I'm the last person who gets freaked out over this stuff, but only time will tell. Let's wait for winter time.

No, besides stocking up on Tamiflu.  But that doesn't even work all the time and you have to use it right away.  There isn't enough to go around.  Best thing is stay home and don't go near anyone.

Well I guess I was wrong about swine flu.  I thought swine flu would come back this winter with a huge outbreak, but so far, there hasn't been much news about major swine flu outbreaks.

I think swine flu has been controlled now. You are right toolfan27. Even I thought that swine flu would casue more serious health hazzard in winters but nothing wrong has happened so far.

I wish to share a news with you guys. The health minister's son of my state has got swine flue. Just think ! It is assumed that he got this disease while he made a visit to Thailand 2 months back.

I never believed the swine flu was any different than any other. It was hyped in to something more than it was.

The only difference between the swine flu and past flus is that the swine flu deaths occured in concentration whereas other flu strain deaths were more spread out.

In fact, many previous flus have caused more deaths over a 1 year period than the swine flu has caused since it's publicizng.

I guess the whole Swine flu scare didn't turn out to be as bad as they thought... I heard on the news the other day that the epidemic was pretty much over.... guess it was just a bunch of media hype..?

Yup, definitely media hype - like it is every year. THe swine flu didn't kill more people than any other flu, it just caused a lot of deaths in a short period of time. Everyone jumped on the panic wagon and rode along!

I guess that this is not a big threat to people since it doesn’t cause much death like those other outbreak.  It is just deadlier to those who are suffering for deadly dieses like diabetes and the likes.

I want to become a bionic man with super strength and other bionic powers.
